Do I Need A Fire Risk Assessment?

Under current fire safety legislation, all business premises and residential flats (communal areas) require Fire Risk Assessments. A written fire risk assessment is needed if you employ five or more employees.

Fire Risk Assessments are required for all non-domestic properties, including public and commercial premises, such as schools, warehouses, factories, licensed premises, nursing homes, care homes, offices, retail outlets, licensed premises, and businesses that provide sleeping accommodation.

It also applies to sheltered housing and the communal areas of blocks of flats and houses in multiple occupations (HMOs).

How Will The Fire Risk Assessment Be Done?

During a fire risk assessment, FYA Safe shall undertake the following:

• Make sure you are not breaking any fire safety legislation by accident or through a lack of knowledge

• Check your inspection and testing recordsInspect fire exits to make sure they comply with current law

• Check escape routes to make sure they comply with current law

• Check your fire alarm to make sure the detectors are in the correct locations and are the right type for the risk

• Check your fire extinguishers to make sure they are in the correct positions and are the correct type for the risk

• Check your Emergency lighting

• Ensure you have the right kind of evacuation signs and that they point in the correct direction

• Check you have proper signage throughout the building

• Check training records

• Check fire doors are in good condition and are the right type and locations
